Major (Class 1959–61) Prosper Avril

On January 3, 1944, a fairly large class of cadets was recruited, fifty-five of whom were commissioned as second lieutenants with Antonio Doublette as major of the promotion. In the year 1952, the Haitian Military Academy was transferred to newly constructed buildings in Frères, Pétion-Ville. Since this transfer, she has trained fifteen classes of cadets, including our own. From then on, the custom was established to endow each Class with a surname: 1- 1952- This is the class of Jean-Baptiste Hilaire baptized: Tri-Cinquantenaire; 2- 1954 Jean-Baptiste Pluviose (Pierre Sully): 3- 1955 — Serge Charles (This promotion commissioned in the midst of a period of political crisis (1957), did not have a name); 4- 1956: François Benoit (Capois-La-Mort); 5- 1958: Donald Manigat (Jean-Jacques Dessalines) 6- 1959: Prosper Avril (Lysius Félicité Salomon Jeune).

From October 1961, the Haitian Military Academy experienced a period of eclipse of ten years. Restarted in 1971, it has since trained nine other classes of Cadets: 1- 1971 — This is the Class of Raoul Cédras baptized: Jean-Claude Duvalier; 2- 1974: Ernst Prud’homme (François Duvalier); 3- 1978- Jean Thomas Cyprien (Toussaint Louverture); 4- 1980: Hernst Mompoint (Henry Christophe); 5- 1981: Jackson Joanis (Caonabo); 6- 1982: Lesly Mendès Pétion (Charlemagne Péralte); 7- 1984: Dieudonné Louicin (Charlotin Marcadieu); 8- 1987: Youri Latortue (Cacique Henri); and finally 9- 1991: Jean Lewis Bourgouin (Chéry Germain)»
