In December of 1798, an Elizabeth Wainwright [25395], sold a man and two women, furniture and two houses that were built on land belonging to Julius Caesar Julius [707] in Basseterre, St. Kitts. She sold them at a low price to William Pryor as a settlement for the debts of her husband Charles Wainwright [25394] with whom she had 6 surviving children
“THIS INDENTURE made the thirteenth day of December in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight between Elizabeth Wainwright of the Island of Saint Christopher of the one part and William Pryor of the said Island of the other part witnesseth that the said Elizabeth Wainwright for and in consideration of the sum of five Shillings Current Money of the said Island to her in hand well and truly by the said William Pryor at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof hereby acknowledged she the said Elizabeth Wainwright hath bargained sold assigned and set over and by these presents doth bargain sell assign and set over unto the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators and Assigns the following negroe slaves named Damon /a man/ Pareen and Phibba /women/ also two Houses on Land of Julius Caesar Julius Esquire in the town of Basseterre in the said Island two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead tow feather beds and two mattresses”

Although Elizabeth reserved a right of use for herself, her youngest son Humphrey Wainwright [25404] (born 1785) and her eldest daughter from a previous relationship, Rebecca Akers (born 1772), the following year, in March of 1799, Rebecca bought a house of her own on George Street in Basseterre, St. Kitts.

This indenture made the thirteenth day of December in the year of Our Lord one thousand seven hundred and ninety eight between Elizabeth Wainwright of the Island of Saint Christopher of the one part and William Pryor of the said Island of the other part witnesseth that the said Elizabeth Wainwright for and in consideration of the sum of five Shillings Current Money of the said Island to her in hand well and truly paid by the said William Pryor at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents the Receipt whereof hereby acknowledged she the said Elizabeth Wainwright hath bargained sold assigned and set over and by these presents doth bargain sell assign and set over unto the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators and Assigns the following negroe slaves named Damon /a man/ Pareen and Phibba /women/ also two houses on Land of Julius Caesar Julius Esquire in the town of Basseterre in the said Island two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead two feather beds and two mattrasses

And all the Estate right title interest property claim and demand whatsoever of them the said Damon, Pareen and Phibba and the said two houses two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead two feather beds and two mattrasses to have and to hold the said negroe slaves named Damon, Pareen and Phibba the said two houses on land of Julius Caesar Julius [707] Esquire as aforesaid and the said two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead two feather beds and two mattrasses hereby bargained sold assigned and set over or intended so to be unto the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators and Assigns from henceforth in trust and confidence and to the intent and purpose that he the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators and Assigns shall permit and suffer the said Elizabeth Wainwright to have hold and enjoy the free use labour and service of the said negroe slaves named Damon, Pareen and Phibba the said two houses two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead two feather beds and two mattrasses hereby bargained sold assigned and set over for so longatime as she the said Elizabeth Wainwright shall live free from the debts or contract of Charles Wainwright [25394] the husband of her the said Elizabeth Wainwright and from and immediately after her death then upon this further trust that he the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators and Assigns /after the decease of the said Elizabeth Wainwright/ shall permit and suffer Rebecca Akers daughter of her the said Elizabeth Wainwright to have hold and enjoy the free use labour and service of the said negroe slaves named Damon, Pareen and Phibba the said two houses two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead two feather beds and two mattrasses hereby bargain sold assigned and set over as aforesaid for so longatime as she the said Rebecca Akers shall live free from the debts or contract of her husband if she should marry at any time hereafter and from and immediately after the death of the said Rebecca Akers then upon this further trust that he the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators and Assigns shall and do by any instrument in writing under his or their hands and seals give the said negroe slaves named Damon, Pareen and Phibba the said two houses two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany beadsted [sic] two feather

Beds and two mattrasses unto Humphrey Wainwright son of the said Elizabeth Wainwright his Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever but in case the said Rebecca Akers should outlive the said Humphrey Wainwright then upon his further trust that he the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators and Assigns shall and do by any instrument in writing under his or their hands and seals give the said negroe slaves named Damon, Pareen and Phibba the said two houses two mahogany dining tables and one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead two feather beds and two mattrasses unto her the said Rebecca Akers daughter of her the said Elizabeth Wainwright as aforesaid her Executors Administrators and Assigns for ever and the said William Pryor for himself his Executors Administrators and Assigns doth hereby covenant promise and agree to and with the said Elizabeth Wainwright her Executors and Administrators in manner and form following /that is to say/ that the said William Pryor his Executors Administrators or Assigns shall and will well and truly make do and execute all and every acts deeds or things whatsoever which may be necessary for the purpose of granting or confirming unto the said Humphrey Wainwright his Executors Administrators and assigns an absolute property in the said negroe slaves named Damon, Pareen and Phibba the said two houses two mahogany dining tables one mahogany cupboard one mahogany bedstead two feather bedsand [sic] two mattrasses from and immediately after the death of the said Rebecca Akers but in case the said Rebecca Akers should outlive the said Humphrey Wainwright then and in wich [sic] case the said William Pryor for himself his Executors Administrators and Assigns doth hereby covenant promise and agree to and with the said Elizabeth Wainwright her Executors or Administrators in manner said form following /that is to say/ that he the said William Pryor his executors administrators or assigns shall and will well and truly make as and execute all and every acts deeds or things whatsoever which may be necessary for the purpose of granting or confirming unto the said Rebecca Akers her executors administrators

Witness Peter Pryor before the Honorable John Garnett Esquire Senior Assistant Justice of his Majesty’s Court of Kings Bench and Common Pleas held in and for the Island of Saint Christopher personally appeared Peter Pryor of the said Island writing Clerk who made the oath upon the Holy Evangelists of Almighty God that he was present and did see the within named Elizabeth Wainwright and William Pryor severally sign seal and as their respective act and deed deliver the within written indenture for the uses and purposes therein mentioned and that he did also see the said Elizabeth Wainwright sign the receipt thereunder written for the consideration money and that he His deponent did set and subscribe his name as a witness to the due execution of the said indenture as also to the signing of the said receipt thereunder written
