Haitian cadets

In the early years of Jean-Claudism (1971–86), one event caught the attention of the capital: the cadets on Sunday leave. Indeed, let us recall that the Military Academy remained closed for a decade (September 1961– August 1971) … The uniform impresses; the profile of these young chefs is like a kind of invitation to attention, quite natural.

When the cadets got off the bus, it was a remarkable moment. Admittedly, there were no special manifestations from passers-by, relatives and friends; however, when a younger brother spoke to an acquaintance, ipso facto the latter was perceived and «became leader» in the imagination of the residents of that time … Politically, society had high expectations of this breed. It will surprise you, in Haiti of unspoken complex stratifications, a cadet belonged to an upper class of chiefs!

Testimonial: On 08/27/2018, a great reader (Madame Gabrielle H.) pointed out the corner of Lalue / Lamarre streets: «With my older cousins and their friends, we went down to the supermarket at Au Lincoln to see the cadets get off their bus. And these girls were happy. This is how it is explained that the majority of these soldiers were married to the daughters of St Rose de Lima».
